Nova and River's Puppies

February 20th

Puppies are 6 1/2 weeks old already and it's getting close to go home day!

We have started their crate training.  They are doing great!

I wanted to go over some of the items included in your puppy packs:

  • Prebiotics/Probiotics Powder: Inside your folder, you’ll find a small packet of prebiotics/probiotics powder. Add a pinch of the powder to each meal to support your puppy’s digestive health.

  • TLC Puppy Food: I have included puppy food in your puppy pack. I’ll provide a link to the puppy food, which is available online with free shipping to your door (usually within 2 business days). If you use the link provided, you'll receive a $5 off coupon and an engraved dog tag.  I recommend keeping the puppies on TLC for at least 5 months, preferably a year or longer.  If you switch your puppy's food too soon, you could cause them to get digestive upset that will cause diarrhoea.  Not always easy to get rid of, so the longer they stay on the food, the better. Since the puppies eat together, I'm not sure how much each is eating individually. I recommend starting with 1 1/4 cup of food in their bowl in the morning. Let them eat for 20 minutes or until they walk away. If they finish it and seem hungry, you can increase the amount. If there are leftovers, you can reduce the portion size.

  • Biscuits: A small bag of biscuits is included for treats.

  • Heartbeat Puppy: This toy mimics a heartbeat, which can help comfort your puppy with its calming effect.

  • Training Clicker: I use a clicker to assist with training. The idea is to click when your puppy does what you’ve asked and then immediately reward them with a treat.

  • Collar: A collar is included for your puppy.

  • Comfort Blanket: This blanket carries the scent of your puppy’s littermates, helping to comfort them during the transition.

  • Litter: The puppies are trained to potty on pine pellets. A small bag of pellets is included. Place them in your yard where you'd like your puppy to go, and the pellets will dissolve into the ground once wet.

  • TLC Gift Pack: TLC has generously included a small gift bag with goodies for your puppy.

Let me know if you have any questions.

February 10th

Puppies were 5 weeks yesterday!

We’ve moved them to a larger sleeping area, and they’re doing a great job keeping it clean. We start them in a smaller space and gradually expand it as they grow. Giving them too much room too soon can cause setbacks, leading them to potty everywhere, and we’d have to start the process over again.

They’re also having daily exposures to our play area, where we add new toys and activities for them to explore each day. They’ve graduated from puppy mush to softened food, and by 6 weeks, they’ll be eating dry kibble.

February 3rd

The puppies turned 4 weeks old yesterday—time is flying! We’ve started the weaning process, and they’re doing great on their puppy mush! They’re now sleeping separately from Nova, but she still visits and nurses them throughout the day.

January 9th

We are starting ENS and ESI today!  Ens (early neurological stimulation) is an exercise that expose puppies to gentle stressors from day 3 - 16, to help with their development, resilience and improve heart health.  ESI (early scent introduction)exposes puppies to different scents throughout the 13 days.

January 5-6th

Nova and River's puppies have arrived!

For the first couple of days, there is minimal handling of the puppies. We want to give Nova time to bond with little stress. The only handling we do, is taking their weights to make sure they are all gaining.
